There is an old building, marked I on plan,
which has evidently been erected at some time by the owner of Inland Lot 609-D, presumably under the impression that it was situated within the boundaries of his lot. It appears to have been erected as a stable or storehouse and is now in a very dilapidated state.

The existence of this building has given rise to the belief that the Western boundary of the lot was approxim→
-ately in the position indicated on the plan by the red chain- -dotted line and, when the Rhenish Mission bought Inland Lot 609-D, they anticipated that they would be able to build a chapel and school on that portion of the lot lying to the West of the road which has been surrendered to Goverment. The discovery that they are unable to carry out their intentions has greatly upset their calculations as they are now faced with the problem of acquiring the necessary land.

1 enclose a second plan, marked "No. 2", on which the area of land available for sale to the westward of In- -land Lot 609-D is shown coloured red. This land was more than twenty years ago a small valley through which a stream ran drain- -ing the hill above and running under the culvert at A, and when the trained nullah to the West was made the stream ceased to run and it was eventually filled in and obliterated by material excavated from sites in the vicinity.

There is no doubt that the Lessees of Inland Lot 609-D were under the impression that their boundary was near- -er to the nullah than is shown on the plan, and the building erected may have actually been partly on their land. I do not think that the Government can divest itself of all responsibility for this uncertainty as a survey should certainly have been made as the neighbourhood developed.

In view of the facts set forth above and the purposes for which they desire to use the area, namely, the erection of a chapel and school and of a house for a Chinese
